The AI-supported product offers comprehensive insights into local competition
Berlin, June 04, 2025 – The hospitality industry is getting a new AI-powered offering that provides restaurateurs with a comprehensive analysis of the competitive environment for clear economic advantages. Lightspeed, the leading provider of cloud-based POS and payment platforms, is launching its new Benchmarks & Trends product on the German market today. It offers restaurateurs the opportunity to analyze their performance in comparison to local competitors. This allows them to adjust their own pricing, opening hours and staffing levels in order to better position themselves in the highly competitive restaurant market.

By using personalized insights, restaurateurs can compare the performance and results between their own business and their direct local competitors: What are average sales? How many orders do competitors receive on average per hour and in which time periods are the peaks? What food and drinks are on offer and what prices do they charge for them? Turnover per hour and per place setting, table turnaround time and much more can also be viewed via Benchmarks & Trends. The data analysis is based on anonymized usage data from Lightspeed customers. In response to their inquiries, users receive an evaluation of competitors that are located in their area and pursue a comparable operating concept – such as bar, fine dining or casual dining. The AI-supported product thus provides restaurateurs with deep insights and a comprehensive understanding of their own performance and positioning compared to local competitors. With Benchmarks & Trends, Lightspeed is responding to the need to counter the high pressure in the restaurant industry caused by changing consumer behavior and rising costs, high market saturation and staff shortages. The data is completely anonymized and data protection is guaranteed.
Sinahn Fabian Sehk, Regional Senior Director, DACH Hospitality at Lightspeed, knows how important it is for restaurateurs in today’s world to use technological advances to increase their efficiency and therefore their sales and profits. Sehk: “Anyone who runs a restaurant has already experienced how much time researching the competition can take. With Benchmarks & Trends, we not only offer data-supported insights and important market information that can be used to evaluate your own performance at the touch of a button, but also enable restaurant operators to use these competitive advantages for themselves.”
The restaurant chain L’Osteria, which has been working with Lightspeed’s checkout and payment platform for several years, was one of the beta testers for Benchmarks & Trends. Peter Schimpl, Director Digital & Innovation, FR L’Osteria SE, shares his impressions: “As a brand with over 200 locations [in Europe], what counts for us is both what works locally and what brings us success in a market comparison. With the help of Benchmarks & Trends, we can make data-based decisions, e.g. by comparing prices, sales and offers. The product provides us with the highest level of market transparency to date. Based on these insights, we can make better economic decisions and thus align our strategy in a more targeted way.”
So far, Lightspeed has helped restaurateurs turn data into growth opportunities with Advanced Insights. Benchmarks & Trends is the next stage in the development of data and insights. By providing localized, real-time data, restaurateurs can now see exactly where they are already performing optimally and where changes could increase their success. Lightspeed Benchmarks & Trends is now available to all hospitality businesses in Germany and Switzerland. The service is available within the Lightspeed Restaurant product with a Pro subscription.
