AI-supported editorial platform halves production time and increases quality
OSLO, May 20, 2025 – Norwegian AI startup Open Mind today announces the expansion of its StoryGo editorial solution to the German market. The AI platform is already helping leading newsrooms in Norway and the UK to produce over 500 articles per week. The Oslo-based company has now won its first German publishing partner, which has published over 300 articles with the platform during the test phase.
Nicolai Astrup Wiik, Head of Business Development at Open Mind, says: “Entering the German market was a key goal for us. It offers us the opportunity to learn from one of the best journalistic cultures in Europe and to further develop our toolset.”
More efficient editorial teams thanks to AI technology
StoryGo helps editorial teams to optimize their workflows and creates space for in-depth journalism and exclusive content. The software suite supports the entire journalistic process – from topic identification and research to writing and source verification.
“AI offers the opportunity to strengthen the economic foundation for quality journalism,” explains Tor Kielland, founder and CEO of Open Mind. “The investigative instincts of journalists are often suppressed by today’s productivity pressures. Our technology takes over the repetitive tasks so reporters can focus on what matters most: asking critical questions.”
Proven success in everyday editorial work
“Our current focus is on digital editorial offices,” says Astrup Wiik. “StoryGo has already had a huge impact on our existing customers. The time spent on open source research and writing has halved, while at the same time more time is available for interviews and in-depth journalistic work. One of our clients is publishing 30 percent more articles and at the same time has better visibility in search engines.”
Strengthening quality journalism
“What’s special about StoryGo is that we haven’t just added another user interface on top of a language model,” says Kielland. “We have developed a complete and integrated solution for newsrooms that uses different forms of AI at every stage of the journalistic process. This frees journalists from so-called ‘churnalism’ – the mechanical recycling of existing content. Instead, they can focus on what creates real added value for society: following their intuition, pursuing leads and talking to sources.”
Stian Guldhaug, project manager at Nettavisen, a large Norwegian online news portal, adds: “With StoryGo, we are less dependent on the direct use of agency material. Instead, we can use this content as a starting point, enrich it with other sources and create something unique that is tailored to the readers’ interests. This leads to more exciting articles and better visibility in search engines.”
Expansion into the German market
Following a successful presentation at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, the world’s largest trade fair for media technology, StoryGo has attracted the interest of media managers worldwide. The strategic focus is now on the German market as the next step in international expansion.
“Following our appearance in Las Vegas, we are talking to potential customers from all over the world,” says Nicolai Astrup Wiik. “We are processing these inquiries systematically and planning controlled growth. Every customer should receive top quality – that’s why we can’t take on more than five to six major customers at the same time over the next six months.”
