#66 Does regenerative agriculture stop climate change? Nina Mannheimer, Co-Founder of Klim

Jul 10, 2024 | 26 Min.

Regenerative agriculture is at the heart of efforts to make farming more sustainable and to actively combat the climate crisis. At the same time, these measures strengthen the resilience of agricultural operations against extreme weather events and help ensure our food supply. This practice not only aims to minimize damage but also to actively restore and improve the health and fertility of the soil.

Through principles such as year-round soil coverage, diverse crop rotations, and reduced soil disturbance, regenerative agriculture offers both ecological and economic benefits. It plays a crucial role in the global protection of climate and biodiversity.

Nina Mannheimer, Co-Founder of Klim, sums up this vision: “For us, regenerative agriculture means harnessing the power of nature to make agricultural systems more resilient while actively contributing to solving the climate crisis.” Together with her team, she is committed to putting these principles into practice and providing farmers worldwide with the tools they need to successfully implement sustainable and regenerative methods.

Key question today:

“How can regenerative agriculture be established globally as a key strategy for climate protection?”

#65 What does mental health really mean? Kimberly Breuer, Likeminded

Jun 5, 2024 | 33 Min.

Quickly replying to one more email after work, doing just one or two tasks over the weekend, and always keeping the work phone close at hand—even on vacation. In today’s working world, many have internalized the mantra: higher, faster, further. It is precisely this hustle culture—a culture of working beyond physical limits—that has a long-term negative impact on employees’ mental health.

Many companies are aware of the seriousness of the situation and are bringing the issue into focus. In Berlin in 2023, according to the health insurance provider DAK, there were 337 sick days per 100 employees due to mental health issues. Absenteeism increased by another eight percent compared to the previous year. How can employers actively support the health of their employees? This is the question that Likeminded is tackling. The Berlin-based startup offers psychological support for employees to promote mental health in the workplace.

“We know that too much stress, when it can’t be managed, is harmful. Joy and fun disappear from life, motivation and productivity suffer, and more and more people are burning out. That’s why we created a platform where employees can find exactly the support they so urgently need,” says Kimberly Breuer, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Likeminded.

Key question today:

What can entrepreneurs do to reduce the psychological pressure on their employees?

#64 Green logistics through e-cargo bikes? Beres Seelbach, ONOMOTION

Jun 24, 2024 | 29 Min.

A relaxed commute is rarely possible for conventional delivery vans. This is due to congested streets and the nerve-wracking search for parking in big cities. An alternative to combustion engines are electric bicycles, which offer an effortless commute with a positive environmental footprint.

E-bikes are not only a healthy and time-flexible means of transportation, but also very environmentally friendly. They are particularly attractive for delivery services aiming to stay fast and agile over longer distances. This inspired the idea behind the Berlin-based startup Onomotion: to rethink urban logistics with the help of electric cargo bikes, putting people at the center. The modular e-cargobike replaces delivery vans in the CEP sector (courier, express, and parcel services) and offers a solution for sustainable goods transport. A symbiotic blend of electric bicycle and car that brings the spirit of urban mobility to the streets.

“If all cars were electrified, we would indeed have better air quality in cities, but we would still face the same problems as with conventional cars. Electric cars take up just as much space in cities and cause traffic jams,” reflects Beres Seelbach, founder and CEO of Onomotion.

Key question today:

How are electric cargo bikes transforming urban delivery traffic, and what role do they play in creating climate-friendly urban living spaces?
