Atos optimizes accessible Office documents with the new D2P-Lite

PRESS RELEASE

Atos’ new lite version of Data2PDF creates accessible PDFs in accordance with the PDF/UA standard directly from Microsoft Word – without post-processing, with high quality and easy integration into digital processes.

Munich May 7, 2026Atos, a global leader in secure AI-powered digital transformation, today announced that a new version of Atos D2P-Lite (Data2PDF Lite) has been released and is now available for download.

When it comes to digital documents in administration, accessibility is no longer an optional extra. At the latest with the growing regulatory requirements in Europe and Germany, it is becoming a mandatory task for organizations. But even more importantly, accessible documents ensure that information is accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of individual limitations or the specific usage situation. They therefore contribute to greater participation, better usability and reliable digital processes.

With D2P-Lite, Atos is now presenting a new version of its tool for accessible PDFs. The solution supports organizations in creating accessible PDF documents directly from Microsoft Word. D2P-Lite thus facilitates the implementation of accessibility requirements in everyday working life and helps companies and authorities to provide documents easily, securely and in compliance with standards.

The PDF documents generated by D2P-Lite have structural information on headings, tables or images as well as precise information on the reading order. This is necessary to ensure that a screen reader reads the document correctly and does not jump back and forth between contents. Other features include the precise marking of foreign-language sections for the screen reader, descriptive alternative texts for diagrams and images and forms that can also be filled out without a mouse.

If, for example, a public authority, company or educational institution publishes an extensive Word document with tables, diagrams and form fields as a PDF, errors often occur in the structure or reading order when created in the conventional way. For users of screen readers, such documents are then only comprehensible to a limited extent or not at all. D2P-Lite helps to avoid precisely this problem by taking accessibility into account directly during the document creation process.

Technical improvements

The new version of Atos D2P-Lite brings important improvements in license management, but also in the creation of accessible documents. D2P-Lite creates accessible documents directly within Microsoft Word. This means that accessibility is no longer created retrospectively, but immediately during the work process.

Further new features in version 2.7.0:

  • A new option for online activation via an activation file. This is automatically recognized and significantly simplifies license management.
  • Improved quality of accessible content. Among other things, the processing of multi-level lists has been corrected so that complex document structures are mapped correctly.
  • For scientific texts, support for mathematical formulas based on MathML has been improved.
  • As in previous versions, compliance with the PDF/UA (Universal Accessibility) standard has been systematically enhanced. This includes improvements to alternative texts, the correct processing of links over several lines and the correct marking of structural elements such as headers, footers and image objects. Overall, the new version offers a high level of conformity with the ISO 14289 standard, enabling D2P-Lite to support organizations in reliably implementing legal requirements such as the European Accessibility Act or national specifications when working with Office solutions.

“With these innovations, Atos is strengthening its position as a provider of accessible document processes in the public sector and in regulated industries,” says Boris Hecker, Co-CEO Atos Germany and Head of Public Sector & Defense, Healthcare Germany. “We see accessibility as a permanent task. Reproducible processes, clear structures and audit-proof implementation over long periods of time are crucial for this.”
