Berlin, April 13, 2026 – STRATO, one of Europe’s leading web hosting providers, is launching the Day of the Self-Employed on May 4. The initiative aims to raise the profile of self-employed people in Germany and recognize their contribution to the economy, innovation and social development. At the same time, STRATO is providing content that provides practical support for people on their way to becoming self-employed and expanding their own business.
With May 4, STRATO is taking up an existing international event in the English-speaking world and bringing the idea of a separate day for self-employed people to Europe – in addition to Germany, the day will also be launched in the STRATO markets of Sweden and the Netherlands. The date was chosen deliberately: The beginning of May stands for new beginnings and a fresh start, for new ideas and entrepreneurial drive.
Self-employment deserves more visibility
The aim of Self-Employment Day is to raise public awareness of the achievements of the self-employed. “Self-employment stands for courage, responsibility and the will to build something of one’s own. This is exactly what we want to make visible with Self-Employment Day. We want to recognize the self-employed, but also provide concrete support – with content that provides orientation and makes it easier to start your own project digitally,” says Jens Reich, Managing Director at STRATO.
The figures also show how relevant the topic is: According to the Federal Statistical Office, around 3.6 million people in Germany will be self-employed in 2023. Small and medium-sized enterprises also account for over 99% of all companies in the country and employ more than half of all workers. They create jobs, strengthen the local economy and ensure healthy competition in Germany.
Recognition and practical support
The Day of the Self-Employed is not just a symbolic occasion for STRATO. The initiative is also associated with concrete benefits. STRATO is bundling content on its own website to support prospective and existing self-employed people with their digital launch and day-to-day business. The focus is on comprehensibly prepared information that provides orientation and is directly usable.
The content provided includes, among other things:
- a compact guide for the first steps into your own business
- Help with the choice of name and domain
- Information on setting up a professional website
- Content on digital visibility and online presence
- Information on legal and organizational principles
- a further Small Business Guide for download.
The Day of the Self-Employed is therefore aimed at people who are still working on their idea as well as those who are already in the middle of their business. STRATO wants to make knowledge more accessible, lower barriers and show that a professional digital presence is not an end in itself, but an important building block for entrepreneurial independence. The day is to be expanded in future with overarching partnerships and other initiatives and formats.
