#68 Scrap trading for more sustainability, Jan Pannenbäcker Metaloop copying

Jul 10, 2024 | 20 min.

The scrap metal trade has always been an industry with great potential, but also with a reputation that is often tainted with prejudice. This is precisely where Jan Pannenbäcker – co-CEO and co-founder of Metaloop, an all-in-one solution for scrap metal – comes in. Metaloop brings a breath of fresh air to this ‘dirty industry’ and completely turns metal recycling on its head with a sustainable, digital approach.

By combining vertical software solutions and smart platforms, Metaloop not only ensures greater efficiency in the industry, but also sets new standards in terms of sustainability. This is achieved in cooperation with leading companies in the metal industry such as Aurubis, Voestalpine, thyssenkrupp and ArcelorMittal.

For Jan and his team, this digital approach not only represents a modernization of the traditional scrap trade, but also an opportunity to fundamentally transform the 600 billion dollar metal scrap market and make it more sustainable in the long term. “Right after the pimp comes the scrap dealer. We want to break up with them and digitally renew the industry,” says Jan.

With a successful Series A financing round of 16 million euros, backed by investors such as Project A Ventures, Atlantic Labs and Earlybird Venture Capital, they have the capital they need to realize their vision and transform the scrap trade in a sustainable way.

Key question today:

“What role does the scrap trade play in the digital and sustainable reorganization of global resource use?”

#66 Does regenerative agriculture stop climate change? Nina Mannheimer, Co-Founder of Klim

Jul 10, 2024 | 26 Min.

Regenerative agriculture is at the heart of efforts to make farming more sustainable and to actively combat the climate crisis. At the same time, these measures strengthen the resilience of agricultural operations against extreme weather events and help ensure our food supply. This practice not only aims to minimize damage but also to actively restore and improve the health and fertility of the soil.

Through principles such as year-round soil coverage, diverse crop rotations, and reduced soil disturbance, regenerative agriculture offers both ecological and economic benefits. It plays a crucial role in the global protection of climate and biodiversity.

Nina Mannheimer, Co-Founder of Klim, sums up this vision: “For us, regenerative agriculture means harnessing the power of nature to make agricultural systems more resilient while actively contributing to solving the climate crisis.” Together with her team, she is committed to putting these principles into practice and providing farmers worldwide with the tools they need to successfully implement sustainable and regenerative methods.

Key question today:

“How can regenerative agriculture be established globally as a key strategy for climate protection?”
