PIABO expands greentech portfolio with Berlin-based impact start-up SPRK.global
PIABO, the leading full-service PR partner for the digital industry, is now managing communications for the impact start-up SPRK.global. In addition to accompanying the market launch, the aim of the cooperation is to strategically position SPRK.global as a visionary company and a driving force in the recycling industry, especially when it comes to reducing food waste. With SPRK.global, PIABO is expanding the client portfolio of its greentech unit founded at the beginning of this year.
An estimated 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted globally each year, one third of all food produced for human consumption, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. In addition, food waste is responsible for 8 – 10 per cent of all man-made greenhouse gases. These facts led SPRK CEO Alexander Piutti to rethink global food supply chains and establish his start-up company:
"It is our goal to redistribute food surpluses throughout the entire supply chain in real time and in line with demand and to avoid food waste in the long term," explains founder Alexander Piutti. "PIABO is a valuable partner who is very experienced in driving new technologies and innovative, sustainable business models forward and exerting a positive influence on industry and society".
To this end, SPRK.global has developed a technology-driven distribution approach based on the integration of artificial intelligence. A platform is to link farmers, producers, wholesalers, retailers and non-profit organisations. The company, founded in March 2020, has already achieved success with this idea. In July 2020, for example, SPRK.global took first place worldwide in the Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC), the world's largest "tech for good"-competition for sustainable start-ups in the "Smart Cities" category. PIABO will continue this success and support SPRK.global in spreading its vision through creative storytelling.
"SPRK.global are true advocates of the circular economy, and at exactly the right time," adds Andreas Krönke, Unit Director of the Greentech Department at PIABO. "Extending the concepts of the circular economy to the entire economy is an important step towards promoting sustainable action, while aiming to address problems directly at the source to make food consumption more efficient. We are looking forward to accompanying SPRK.global in making an important contribution to climate protection and better distribution of food".
Since 2009, PIABO has supported innovative and sustainable companies that use new technologies and business models to make a positive impact on social life. In early 2020, this expertise was bundled into its Greentech and Sustainability unit. The spectrum of topics ranges from smart city and new mobility to industry 4.0 applications. PIABO also promotes dialogue with renowned industry representatives at events such as the Ecosummit or via the Business Class podcast by Tilo Bonow, including SPRK CEO Alexander Piutti himself. Both SPRK.global and PIABO are also members of the Greentech Alliance, an association that is committed to networking and promoting the greentech community worldwide.
If you have any questions or remarks don't hesitate to contact Tilo Bonow, CEO of PIABO, or Andreas Krönke, Unit Director Technology. They look forward to your message.
