#56 AI: The new steam engine of knowledge work? Tim Wegner, Workist

Jul 10, 2024 | 37 Min.

Artificial intelligence is seen as just as revolutionary as mobile phones or the internet. For several months now, AI has increasingly become a part of our daily work lives—even for knowledge workers. One of the most frequently asked questions is: Can’t AI do this for me?

AI-based tools have become an integral part of everyday work. Today, anyone talking about digitalization in the workplace cannot ignore the optimization of work processes. Typing up receipts or recording invoices are among the repetitive tasks that were previously associated with manual entry and long working hours.

Our guest today, Tim Wegner, founder and managing director of Workist, recognized the need for an intelligent software solution to optimize work processes. “We want to be the medicine, not the diagnosis,” says Tim Wegner. The idea behind Workist: using AI to process documents such as orders, invoices, and delivery notes, automatically extracting all relevant information to fully automate business operations.

Key question today: Letting artificial intelligence do the work – is AI the new knowledge worker?

#55 Galactic economy: A new era? Joram Voelklein & Bulent Altan, Alpine Space Ventures

Jul 10, 2024 | 33 Min.

The space industry is at a crucial turning point: moving away from being a playground for governments toward becoming a billion-dollar market. One company that has paved the way is Elon Musk’s SpaceX. These are the kinds of companies that have set out to revolutionize space travel. At the same time, aerospace centers and highly specialized companies around the world are working intensively on new innovative technologies, materials, and concepts to push the boundaries of space exploration.

The passion for uncovering untapped potential in space exploration unites the two co-founders of Alpine Space Ventures, Joram Voelklein and Bulent Altan.

“Right from our first meeting, it was clear that we were a good match, because he spoke plainly with me on a panel,” says Joram Voelklein about his first encounter with his future business partner Bulent Altan. That meeting in 2018 led to the founding of a venture capital firm for space projects: Alpine Space Ventures was born.

Key question today: New Space – what impact do venture capital investments have on the expansion, scaling, and strategic positioning of the aerospace industry?

#54 Drones: The future of healthcare? Herbert Weirather, Jedsy

Jul 10, 2024 | 27 Min.

Drones are true game changers and much more than just a flexible and energy-efficient means of transport. They are proving to be real all-rounders with the potential to play a crucial role in many areas of application—and even take on entirely new tasks. For example, in the delivery of medication, where faster transport can save lives.

A visionary in this field is Herbert Weirather, an aerospace engineer who founded Jedsy, a startup for cargo drones. With the founding of the company, Weirather is actively working to enable efficient and responsive medication transport in developing countries.

“I started flying model airplanes when I was twelve—I’ve just always loved building things,” says Herbert Weirather, reflecting on his first encounters with aviation. His passion for flying runs like a thread through his life: in 2016, he launched the first Drone Champions League, a racing series for remote-controlled flying devices. He now brings this wealth of experience into the world of autonomous delivery drones.

Key question today:

Medication delivery by drone: A sustainable breakthrough for healthcare?
